Viola

As a viola model, I highly recommend the outstanding Gasparo da Saló.

Gaspara da Saló was born in Saló, a small town near Brescia (Northern Italy), in 1542 as the son of Francesco Bertolotti. He was a student of Girolamo Virchi who was an important lute maker. He worked in Brescia, where he died in 1609. It is not without reason that the instruments of this master violin maker are among the most sought after. On the following pages we will introduce to you some outstanding instruments that come very close to our ideal of a viola. It is astounding that his instruments sound fantastic even after 400 years!
